Making Sawdust Substrate
Submerge both of the sawdust logs in a bucket of cold water and within minutes they will fall apart by themselves. A little while later and all the sawdust will completely seperate…
Now take big handfulls of the sawdust out and squeeze the excess water away whilst transfering the sawdust to another bucket.
Add the 190g bag of wheatbran to the sawdust and mix thoroughly with your hands. This tends to soak up any excess water and make a perfectly hydrated mix.
Field Capacity / Sterilisation
Test field capacity by taking a handful of the sawdust mix and squeezing it very hard, there should only be a small trickle of water before quickly stopping.
Now it’s time to fill your bags to be sterilised.
