MonoBox is our new big baby.
You will need a 3ml gourmet spore or culture syringe for the MycoBag or 6ml for the SpawnTubs (3ml for each of the two SpawnTubs)
- Bigger mushrooms / flushes / harvests / humidity / airflow
- Lower maintenance
SpawnTubs or a SpawnBag?
If you’re unlucky enough to experience a contamination in a SpawnTub, at least you have another one left over – enough for really decent flushes and an overall yield of 500grams+ of mushrooms.
SpawnTubs cost a little more as they are a more premium product and a bit easier and nicer to work, tbh.
Another key benefit is the if you are wanting to get into agar or G2G transfers, you probably won’t want to be working with bags – lids which can be opened and closed are ideal.
- Inject the SpawnBag or both SpawnTubs and wait for the grain to fully colonise with mycelium
- Add water to the substrate box and microwave for 10mins then allow to cool
- Mix the colonised grain spawn into the substrate and leave it to fully colonise
- Put colonised substrate into the grow tent
- Wait for mushrooms to fruit
- Dunk the mycelium ‘cake’ in water overnight to rehydrate
- Then wait for even more mushrooms
- Repeat until the substrate is completely spent

Experience a problem with any product? Don’t panic!
Clean products are what we specialise in, it’s our bread and butter – and we’re good at it. We have to be.
Sterile technique is like driving – you can’t learn it by reading, you need to be practising it always.
While most contamination reports are statistically more likely to be down to beginner error, it’s not always the case.
Sometimes it may actually be us. Does that mean we don’t know what we are doing or that we’re rookies at this?
No. And here’s why.
We regularly purchase live gourmet mother spawn from one of, if not the largest, most accredited mycology business in the world.
This company is BIG and they even run week-long training courses in mycology and have the most incredible set up worth a fortune.
Even they make mistakes. We’ve had to get in touch with them a couple of times after receiving contaminated spawn.
The point we’re trying to make here is that even the masters of mycology mess up. Nature is unpredictable and we all make mistakes.
Although we don’t offer refunds on our products, we will send a voucher for it’s replacement.
Irregardless who is at fault.
A second chance on us 🙂
*If we believe this is being abused by anyone, we reserve the right to remove it at any time.
Although this grow kit can be used without a SAB, it’s good practise and recommended to use one.
We have SAB’s available, but you can always build yourself something – it doesn’t need to be fancy!
…some people even build SAB’s with a cardboard box (inferior but better than open air).
First impression counts
Nosey delivery drivers, flatmates, neighbours or work colleagues?
Your parcel will be sent in high quality, nondescript packaging; our website won’t be mentioned and there’s no tell-tale return address to worry about either.
Even for international orders made from outside of the UK, our customs declarations are barebones with descriptions such as ‘Microscopy Kit’ or ‘Gardening Supplies’, etc… We follow the rules whilst maintaining your privacy.
Little bits of useful information
- Grain SpawnBags and MycoBags can be squeezed at 50% colonisation to help speed up growth an have full colonisation 1-2 weeks earlier if you’re lucky. But, just do it the once or you may end up stalling the growth.
Planning to pay with Bank Transfer?
We will email you immediately after checkout, so be sure to read what it says.
Bank payments are what 90% of our customers use, we receive a lot of payments via bank and sometimes people do not appreciate that it’s impossible to know who has paid if you do not follow our instructions. Especially when many customers use names on their orders which don’t even match the names that bank transfers are coming from!
So, we created a better process for us to handle large volumes of bank transfers extremely efficiently.
Follow both simple steps for a happy, stress-free ordering experience at Cylocybe.
- Use your Order Number as the reference within your banking app.
Because it allows us to search for the payment in our bank. We literally type your order number in. Searching with names or amounts are completely useless. Order numbers are what we need.
- Then click on the ‘I Have Paid’ button within your account dashboard
It notifies us so we know to look for the payment you’ve sent. Think of it this way; if we get 500 orders in a day, but only 250 people actually follow through and send payment – that means that we’ve saved ourselves having to search our bank 250 times for payments that were never sent in the first place. The time savings for us are monumental which is handy when we are always rushed for time.
When we get a minute, we’ll verify the payment in our bank and start processing your order.

Hi there, yes the bag goes over the top. That means more height for mushrooms and way better airflow too as it isn't a super tight seal, it's the perfect size. Carbon dioxide sinks out of the bag effectively. Plus it's really easy to access the MonoBox because you simply lift the bag off. There's not a kit out there like it, you'll LOVE the results.
Is there another way of sterilising the substrate if I don’t have a microwave (or pressure cooker)?

It's the easiest. Try steam sterilisation in a pot or a pressure cooker if you want.
You say it can take around 4-5 weeks to fully colonise in optimum conditions. Is this for the mycobag, the spawn with bulkmix or both?

Spawn with Bulkmix, but the grain will need to be broken up during colonisation to speed up the growth. For example, when there's a good bit of mycelium growing within the grain spawnbag, you can mash it up a little to distribute the mycelium further for rapid growth.
Hello has anyone got their item delivered successfully to India like the spore syringe or the grow kit ? will be ordering soon

Q How many ml of spore would each agar pot require and would the ratio of agar pot to spawn tub be 1:1 answer nowAsked on 12th March 2021 3:55 amA
Just a droplet or two per AgarPot.
A couple of wedges of mycelium can be cut out of a single AgarPot when it’s colonised, the larger the piece the faster the SpawnTubs will colonise.
Do you need to keep the spawn substrate refrigerated whilst the agar colonises? If so, how long will it last for before you need to use it?

Fantastic question. You there is no need to store within a fridge. The grain will do just fine being left in the boxes they are supplied with until the agar is ready. I would say to use them within 4 weeks - plenty of time for agar work :)
apart from the spore syringe is there any other required or suggester equipment?

We would always advise that you work within a SAB (Still-Air Box) when doing anything like inoculation and agar work, so strongly suggest this as a hugely beneficial piece of equipment. There is more info about their purpose on our product page here
